Google Announces AI Chatbot, Bard, Which Will Finally Make You Forget About Clippy
Google has finally entered the AI chatbot game with the release of Bard, the search giant's very own digital assistant. Much like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google’s Bard is designed to be a productivity-enhancing, curiosity-fueling powerhouse that can answer questions and save us from boring tasks, like googling. While the initial version of Bard will only respond to text, Google is fast following to support audio-, image- and video-based queries. Competition between Google and the multibillion-dollar Microsoft-OpenAI partnership is heating up, but the real winner is already clear: whoever doesn't force us to use Internet Explorer.
TikTok CEO Defends App's Security Practices and Ability to Keep You Entertained for Hours
The drama continues for TikTok as the popular video-sharing app updates its content guidelines around deepfakes and manipulated content amidst growing concerns over cybersecurity and misinformation. TikTok's CEO, Shou Zi Chew, is set to appear before a US congressional hearing where he will defend the company's data-security practices and relationship with the Chinese government. Chew is also warning against a potential ban on the app in the US, citing that over 150 million Americans rely (and lip-sync) on the platform.

DoorDash Targets 19th-Century Demographic with New Cash Payment Option
DoorDash is rolling out a new feature that allows customers to pay with cash for their online orders in an effort to expand its reach and cater to a wider demographic (a.k.a those who still carry wads of cash and metal coins in their pockets). This innovative service, however, is limited to DoorDash Drive, the white-label delivery solution that empowers restaurant owners to offer delivery from their own websites or apps. The move is intended to address the needs of customers who prefer not to share their payment card information online, as well as those who may lack access to digital payment options.
Tesla Drops Another F-Bomb: Full Self-Driving Update Takes Over Highways and Stoplights
This week, Tesla is gracing us with another update to its driver assist software, known as "Full Self Driving," (FSD). The update merges the FSD and Tesla's Autopilot highway driver assist software, refines the car's decision-making at intersections and stoplights, delivers smoother stops at stop signs, adjusts better for speed limit changes, and improves recognition for when the vehicle needs to exit a turn lane. Oh, and lest we forget, it also mitigates a February recall that warned 362,758 cars equipped with FSD in North America could cause a crash. Note that the company is currently under criminal investigation over its claims that Teslas can drive themselves. Elon is truly always pushing the boundaries of what's possible (and legal).
